Tiesto Shocks the World w/ BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix

From being ranked #1 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 List three times to becoming the first DJ ever to play at the Olympic Games, Tiesto has certainly marked his territory in the realm of electronic music.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, we can add another attribute to his endearing legacy. It’s been a decade since the Dutch mastermind controlled those famous BBC Radio 1 decks, and his sound has certainly developed over the past ten years. After announcing the launch of “Club Life Afterhours” on Sirius XM, Tiesto decided to drop his previous style of sound in order to unearth a genre known as deep house. To call his latest Essential Mix “underground” would be a cop out; because really, there’s nothing underground about it.

Tiesto fanatics may need a Xanax before listening to his latest two hour, chilled out compilation. Featuring more of that feel good tech-house, the original mix sort of side-steps that quintessential techno energy that Tiesto usually provides his listeners. The world of EDM consistently shifts from musical trend to trend, and most of our favorite artists are too abashed to take the leap into the unknown. First, Avicii went honky-tonk at Ultra last year. And now, Tiesto has shocked the world and taken his sound deeper than the Mariana Trench. These men deserve our honest recognition for exposing the possibility of negative feedback.

Trailblazers like these two men are far and few, and they have the ability to carry our industry into the next realm of production through inventive experimentation and doubtless creativity.

Here’s to the trendsetters.

The Bloody Beetroots feat. Paul McCartney and Youth – Out of Sight (Original Mix)

It’s finally here!

Rock legend Paul McCartney has teamed up with Youth and electronic sensation The Bloody Beetroots to create a collaborative piece for the ages.

‘Out of Sight’ opens with the echoes of children frolicking about as a squealing guitar riff sets the mood for Sir Bob’s vibrant arena sound and gigantic kicks. This is definitely unlike anything we have heard before. Try not to get too cozy because, soon enough, the song breaks again. This time it’s Paul’s growling and passionate vocals matched with a calming piano melody and trippy, Pink Floyd-esque background disturbances.

The song does an excellent job of shifting motifs with a grace that only Mr. McCartney could provide.

To be honest, the more we listen to this, the more we like it. The song changes moods so effortlessly. From the dark and epic electronic pieces provided by The Bloody Beetroots to the haunting harmonies provided by Youth, this jam is nothing but a change of pace in the electronic music scene. Paul McCartney has instantly become the coolest grandpa in the game.

And believe us, we know some pretty cool grandpas.

The title of this post is no lie. I don’t even have to see Lorin’s set to know that it will be one of the best. If your looking to make a few memories this summer in the Chi, Bassnectar is your man. Mr. Ashton is notorious for putting on a one-of-a-kind live show, with the lasers to back it up.  This man has the uncanny ability to morph any genre of music, and we mean any, into his signature sound “Freestyle Amorphous Music.”

So what exactly is that you ask? Well, it’s a bit tricky to explain. Bassnectar is positively giant, we are sure many of you have heard some of his jams. And if you haven’t, tisk tisk. Just rock out on some of his sounds below. I’m sure you’ll get the big picture.

Lorin Ashton started his musical career playing session bass for an American death metal group by the name of Exhumed. Shortly after, his musical path diverged after becoming enthralled with the 90’s rave scene. He felt an overwhelming sense of comfort and welcome by this new establishment, which led to the coagulation of his latter style as well as his most current electronic vibe. We thank God everyday that this happened. What if there was no Bassnectar? All of us EDM hummingbirds would go wanting. We need that sweet juice that Lorin secretes in the form of mind altering, earth shattering bass music.

Since the switch, a plethora of fame and fortune have come Bassnectar’s way. In 2012, Lorin Ashton sold over 250,000 tickets! And that is not including festival ticket sales (where he is usually headlining at). He has recorded 9 full-length studio albums to date and released over 35 singles, EP’s and mixtapes. In our opinion, Bassnectar works harder than almost every producer in the game, with maybe a few exceptions. His repertoire does not lie and very soon you will have the chance to see what all this hype is really about.

Ladies and Gentlemen, let’s get ready. All praise to The Master of Bass: Lorin Ashton.

See you there…
