Top 10 EDM Songs Released This Month (May 2014)

Do you like music? Nice, so do we.

That’s why instead of hitting up happy hour for some dirty flirtinis, we spent our entire Friday afternoon ferociously debating which new EDM tracks are the most trill. And by ‘most trill’, we mean the 10 songs that are not to be ignored – for any reason, other than if you peed your pants.

Then again, peeing your pants is cool.

So uhh…yah. You should listen to all of these songs.

10. Wielding their street sweeping beat, SNAILS is shooting “SLUGZ.”

9. Kill The Zo, ’nuff said.

8. Once you go Thomas Jack, you never go back.

7. There’s Goldfish, there’s Koi, and then there’s this song.

6. It’s an Audien “Revolution.” We’re just living in it.

5. No, no “Ice Cream Sound.” Not until you eat your vegetables.

4. Remaining static will be a problem for die-hard fans of The Knocks. We present, “Move Me.”

3. Porter Robinson unveils another revolutionary chapter in his pièce de résistance, the “Sad Machine.”

2. Complete satiation thanks to the trio that is Nero.

1. Welcome insomnia. You won’t stop listening to this…not even for sleep.

Jantsen & Dirt Monkey – Ice Cream Sound [Dub Summer Anthem]

Personally, for this Rager, this next jam has been an unabashed pleasure of mine over the past week.

Capturing an unbelievably catchy tune in a four and a half minute track seems entirely effortless for musicians Jantsen and Dirt Monkey, two of the most promising up-and-coming American dubstep producers. Setting aside my unhealthy obsession with two other dub production masterminds (Spag Heddy and EH!DE), Boulder residents Patrick Megeath of Dirt Monkey and Jantsen Robertson additionally possess the rare ability to produce the filthiest, nastiest of beats while still managing to keep their chord progression unique and extremely melodic. I fear that as of late, simple qualities such as these are far too often ignored in an narrow-minded attempt to synthesize the ultimate “drop.”

Utilizing a classic rolling bass melody, which to us, sounds a lot like old-school Doctor P, and a unfathomably catchy reggae hook, this tandem of Colorado DJs have struck gold with “Ice Cream Sound.” Pay special attention to the way these two have incorporated the vocal chops as an instrument and how it elegantly intertwines with the original, “Slightly Stoopid-reminiscent” vocals.

The perfect song for the perfect summer playlist.

Enjoy.

20syl – Bet Dap Goom Bown (20syl’s BoomBap Festival Beat Remix)

Lengthy title, we know. Don’t worry. As always, there’s a reason.

Well, more like a story actually…

If you would, for a brief moment, take a step into our Rager Onions Time Machine (patent pending) and turn the dial back to the last century, circa 1999. If you know anything about Back to the Future and the workings of time travel in general, you just might happen to notice something a little peculiar about the way our flux capacitor works. Much like the TARDIS from every nerd’s favorite Sci-Fi television show, Doctor Who, our time machine not only travels through time, but space as well. As you hear the space-punk themed contraption power up, engage, and rear itself to a lurching halt, you will emerge from the dank chamber in an unusual place (that is, not where you departed from).

You have safely arrived in Reims, France during the famous Boom Bap Hip Hop Festival. Making your way through a gathered crowd of music fans you cannot help but notice the ultra dulcet, hip-hop-influenced beats of this next production duo. In fact, what you’re actually hearing is an original mix to the very same song we have included below by native French producers Hocus Pocus and C2C of 20syl. These two bros have been in the game for quite some time and it would seem that making uncanny hip-hop beats is certainly nothing new to this tandem.

We went crazy for 20syl’s remix of Schoolboy Q (the whole EDM world did) and we hope this next jam will fall in line. Enjoy this reworking to “Bet Dap Goom Bown.”

Yeah, we have no idea what that means either.
