It has certainly been a couple of hot minutes since we last checked in with Joshua Mellody (born: Joshua Jenkin), one of our favorite trend-setting, speaker-smashing and all around bass music revolutionizing producers you might more easily recognize as: Zomboy. Without ever taking so much as a glance in the rearview mirror, young Joshua had boldly decided to pursue a career in electronic dance music after forgoing a future involving his classical training in “sound engineering.”

Granted that we understand how the skills acquired in Zomboy’s formal intellectual endeavors would translate nicely into many of the qualities observed on each and every one of his top-tier productions, what impresses us most about Joshua, as both a fan and a critic, is the rate in which Mr. Mellody has accrued his horde of loyal listeners. However, if you have ever listened to a Zomboy production before today, this fact really comes as no surprise.

It took a few listens to his original EP, “Game Time” and simply required a single listen to ANY of the jams off Josh’s follow up, 6-tracked extended play release, “The Dead Symphonic,” to win over our onion-shaped hearts. On the latter of the two EPs, Zomboy officially earned a spot on our “favorite artists” list with his ability to combine Reggaeton and Skrillex-like, Dubstep insanity, thus synthesizing an entirely new chimeric, auricular beast.

Winning the Rager Onion’s crew over was the easy part however. With EDM fanatics like us, it’s the continuation, extenuation, and evolution of these talents that proves whether or not an artist is simply decent, or damn near brilliant. As of now, we are passing no judgement as far as our former statement is concerned.
