Monstercat 017 – Ascension Ascends the Label Even Further

Over the past two years, we have watched this next label transform from the likes of a promising, transgenre EDM collective with loads of potential into the fierce jungle feline you see before you today.

Monstercat is most certainly where it’s at when discussing labels that have set the tone for the next few years of electronic dance music releases.

How, you ask?

Well, that next part is a bit tricky.

To begin, this Vancouver-based music label has elucidated talents from some of the most unheard of, eclectic groups of musicians in all of dance music. Not only have they championed said undiscovered artists onto the scene, but these new talents have proceeded to swell their fair share of waves in this vastly expanding ocean we affectionately refer to as the “EDM-o-sphere.” A quick glance at the “current roster” on the official Monstercat web page will reveal a staggering number of widely popular producers you may not have necessarily associated with MCat.

(Just to name a few of our favorites.)

However, words will only get us so far. You need to HEAR what we mean.

Without hesitation, the fat cats over at MC have released their 17th compilation LP to date. So far, “Monstercat 017 – Ascension” has garnered attention from every corner of the EDM world, making this their most supported album to date! With a four-hour laundry list of tracks, fantastic production quality throughout, and loads of prodigal EDM producers on top of it all, Monstercat presents to you a release that will only serve to exacerbate their stranglehold on the EDM industry.

Keep it up boys and girls.

Koda | Staying (DotEXE Remix) [Free Download]

Chicago native and assumed Microsoft user (we’ll get to that later) Scott Stanley has created a nice little buzz for himself here at Rager Onions headquarters. Producing several eclectic, top notch tunes over the past few months, DotEXE appears to be preparing himself for an extremely strong finish to the year here in twenty fourteen. Slowly and deliberately releasing a patchwork of electronic jams, Scott has impressed listeners with his ability to “hit the nail on the head” so to speak when it comes to the mastery of a particular genre.

DotEXE derives his name from the hopefully recognizable “.exe” file extension used on your DOS and Microsoft-based operating systems. To this artist, however, his name symbolizes the watershed moment when Scott decided to forgo his formal education in computer programming and fully dedicate himself to his true passion: music production.

We think he made the right choice.

Specializing in more of an uptempo production method which includes genres like Drumstep, Dubstep and Drum and Bass, DotEXE’s latest remix of “Staying” by Koda is yet another unique testament to the quality of his craft. Young producer Scott Stanley throws conventional EDM arrangement out the window and synthesized a song that glimmers with hints of grandeur while simultaneously exemplifying the talent and work ethic necessary to make it in this ever expanding industry.

Savoy Releases First Full Length Album | Self Predator LP

Ah yes.

The energy is strong with this one.

Colorado sensation Savoy released their first ever full length album last week, representing one of the most anticipated releases of the year thus far. Self Predator contains 15 individual tracks each filled to the brim with their own peculiar style and flow. With influences ranging from techno, moombah-ton, 80’s disco, trap, French electro and that oh so grimy dub, this album could be one for the record books. Not too many artists can create and produce a completely original (yet completely diverse) album without infringing on those said influences. And the fact that their signature catchy synth sound manifests itself throughout only adds to the varietal prowess of this monumental musical talent.

Savoy is currently touring throughout North America with DotExe on their GetLazerd Tour. Check the destinations to see if you’re lucky to catch them playing at a venue near you.
