Thursday’s Artist Spotlight: Dyro

Debuting at #30 in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll, this next artist became the youngest ‘Highest New Entry’ to ever grace the peculiarly weighted, but somewhat definitive poll regarding disc jockeying talent. Known for his signature driving bass lines, enchanting melodies and highly charged drops, Jordy van Egmond has seamlessly made the transition from bedroom composer to renowned international DJ/Producer. Dyro has surpassed any expectations with his rapid ascent into the highly coveted upper echelons of the dance music scene.

Previously garnering support from the likes of the most popular DJs in the world (including: Hardwell, Laidback Luke, and Dada Life), Dyro was unanimously selected as the group’s ‘Breakthrough Artist of 2012.’ With such a lofty title placed on his forehead, we believe that so far, the 21 year old star has effectively matched the highly esteemed praise with consistent releases and captivating live sets. The success of this swiftly rising talent just goes to show you that anything is possible. One day your sitting at your home computer, ripping the stems of your favorite producers to remix, the next, you’re sitting down in million dollar studios and collaborating with the very same musicians you had once idolized. Such was the case for young Dyro as Hardwell quickly sniffed out his prospective talents and slapped a Revealed Recording label on Jordy’s releases.

At this point in time, with all that has been said and done regarding this next producers short but enchanting career, it’s no longer a shock when Dyro delivers tunes with impeccable standards again and again. He is one of they very few DJs that can boast a production portfolio overflowing with quality and quantity. As Hardwell once put it, “Dyro is in my opinion, the world’s biggest up and coming DJ”. Maybe a little bias considering the man is paying for Dyro’s music, but what do I know. A lot, actually.

We believe Dyro to be a particularly special “must see” artist at this years Spring Awakening Music Festival because there is nothing more authentic than a DJ in the middle of actualizing their very own dreams.

Varien & SirensCeol – Moonlight (Feat. Aloma Steele) [Monstercat]

This next jam is simply beautiful.

Over the past year and a half, we’ve championed one of the next two artists, Stephen Burke aka SirensCeol, from the most embryonic stages of his production career. Fortunately for Stephen, both his work ethic and intellect (the man attends Berkeley University, need we say more?) have catapulted his talents to the forefront of EDM production with his unique approach to melodic dubstep and many other genres.

I vividly remember when SirensCeol opened for another enigmatic, the genre-blurring production prodigy known as Savant. Josh Hernandez, the CEO of Alek’s record company (SectionZ Records) also happened to be in attendance as well.

Before the show began, I had excitedly rushed up to him and told him to pay special attention to the opening act, Stephen.

After SirensCeol performed a wicked set and was transitioning to let Aleks set up his gear, I beckoned Josh over to the front of the stage where I was standing.

“You gotta sign that artist,” I yelled over the music playing during the entr’acte, “He’s incredible.”

Josh simply smiled and gave me an ever so cool, “Yeah, maybe.”

Next thing I knew, six months later, young Stephen had released his first full-length on SectionZ Records with Josh.

Funny, huh?

Despite the fact that I love telling people ‘I told you so’, I will try my hardest to abstain here.

However, California-based producer SirensCeol has come quite a long way. This next jam with Varien will only serve to further this fact. Featuring the incredibly dulcet vocals of Aloma Steele (which Stephen himself was incredibly satisfied with), “Moonlight” reached the number one spot on Beatport’s Dubstep charts in virtually no time at all.

Let’s give a congratulatory “follow” to Varien and SirensCeol on their prospective social media outlets. We hope you enjoy this absolutely fantastic track, which was released on Monstercat…go figure.

Great work boys, keep em’ coming.

Stonebank – Eagle Eyes (feat. Emel) [MONSTERCAT]

When it comes to producing melodic dubstep, living in the shadow of an artist like Seven Lions is certainly no walk in the park. In order for an emerging artist to grab the attention of the electronic dance world, they must offer up a track that is truly a work of art, something rather special. Unfortunately, it is the inherent predisposition we all share as human beings that clouds our judgement when listening to new music. We are more willing to accept or enjoy a production from an artist in which we are already acquainted with (call it a bias if you will). We want their music to be good because we have already invested time in the artist(s) in question.

Fortunately for this next producer, he picked the right platform in which to springboard his euphonic genius onto our collective ears. It’s not even a contest any more, Monstercat = good music. It is as simple as that. Word up to our Canadian brethren pumping out wildly enjoyable EDM tunes day in and day out.

With the help of our feline friends, Stonebank brings us his first discernible release to date. “Eagle Eyes” (featuring vocals by EMEL) will warp the listener on a journey through a dense, dynamically shifting melodic dubstep landscape eloquently crafted by this up and coming producer hailing from, you guessed it, the UK.
