Musical Adrenaline: 10 Best EDM Running Songs (Summer Is Coming Edition)

Welcome.

In honor of what we like to call ‘the boom’ (that magical moment in spring when everyone begins acting-a-fool because they realize summer isn’t that far away anymore) – we’ve put together another edition of ‘Musical Adrenaline’ for your audio entertainment.

Like craft beers, the temperature, and your general outlook on life – workout routines change by the season. Every new one brings a different running environment, and of course – every new season demands a fresh playlist.

So, put the shitty winter behind you. And more importantly, stop talking to me about it in the elevator. Your breath smells like old cheese mixed with burnt rubber, and I have no interest in becoming your friend. Seriously, why do people feel so obliged to make conversation in the elevator? Like, come on dude – I’m reading the tag on the bottom of my sweater – does it really seem like I want to talk?

Anyways….

Put on your sneakers, download these songs, and go break a sweat.

Summer is coming.

10. Porter Robinson – ‘Sea of Voices’

I always like to get my run started with something slow. And this track off of Porter’s new album is pretty ideal.

9. Jaytech – ‘Megastructure’

One of many songs from Anjunabeats that I’ve utilized for ‘physical health’ purposes over the last few weeks. And ‘waking up way too fucking early’ purposes.

8. Vicetone – ‘White Lies’

The latest single from Vicetone. These Dutch up-and-comers still continue to find their way onto every list we throw together. Although this doesn’t quite hit the spot like their ‘Clarity’ remix (I don’t know if anything will) – it certainly does the trick.

7. Calvin Harris – ‘Summer’

Need I say more?

6. Bastille – Pompeii (Audien Remix)

‘Hindsight’ (Audien’s newest single) and ‘Circles’ were both true contenders. But Audien’s rendition of Bastille’s smash-hit was unprecedented. It’s definitely the best spin on ‘Pompeii’ (there’s been many), and maybe the best remix of the year so far.

5. Avicii – ‘Liar Liar’ (Avicii by Avicii Remix)

1 of the 2 songs included from Avicii’s upcoming (self) remix EP (True, Avicii by Avicii). I won’t go on about how brilliant Tim Bergling’s latest project is, I’ll just let you hear for yourself. ‘Liar Liar’ was my least favorite song on the original True album.

Not anymore.

4. Ilan Bluestone – ‘Waves Of LA’ & ‘Elysian’

I included Ilan’s entire new mini-EP for two reasons:

1. The individual links weren’t available.

2. I couldn’t decide between ‘Elysian’ and ‘Waves of LA’.

So i’ll let you decide.

3. Progresia feat. Linnea Schossow – ‘Fire, Fire, Fire’ (Ilan Bluestone Remix)

Oh what the hell, this imminent trance sensation deserves the extra attention. This is Ilan Bluestone’s remix of ‘Fire, Fire, Fire’ – and it has single handedly given me numerous stomach cramps and back aches over the last few months. Give it some time to pick up.

After the 2-minute mark you’ll be running on air.

2. Avicii – ‘You Make Me’ (Avicii Remix)

You just can’t go wrong with the 80’s.

1. Kaskade – ‘Atmosphere’

And of course, I always save the best for last. This is a beat I’ve been playing on repeat all month long. And frankly, Kaskade’s masterpiece is one of the most captivating melodies that mankind has ever created. Seriously…I’m not kidding.

Stop laughing at me!

Tiesto Shocks the World w/ BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix

From being ranked #1 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 List three times to becoming the first DJ ever to play at the Olympic Games, Tiesto has certainly marked his territory in the realm of electronic music.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, we can add another attribute to his endearing legacy. It’s been a decade since the Dutch mastermind controlled those famous BBC Radio 1 decks, and his sound has certainly developed over the past ten years. After announcing the launch of “Club Life Afterhours” on Sirius XM, Tiesto decided to drop his previous style of sound in order to unearth a genre known as deep house. To call his latest Essential Mix “underground” would be a cop out; because really, there’s nothing underground about it.

Tiesto fanatics may need a Xanax before listening to his latest two hour, chilled out compilation. Featuring more of that feel good tech-house, the original mix sort of side-steps that quintessential techno energy that Tiesto usually provides his listeners. The world of EDM consistently shifts from musical trend to trend, and most of our favorite artists are too abashed to take the leap into the unknown. First, Avicii went honky-tonk at Ultra last year. And now, Tiesto has shocked the world and taken his sound deeper than the Mariana Trench. These men deserve our honest recognition for exposing the possibility of negative feedback.

Trailblazers like these two men are far and few, and they have the ability to carry our industry into the next realm of production through inventive experimentation and doubtless creativity.

Here’s to the trendsetters.

Rager Onions Presents: The Top 10 EDM Songs of 2013

After compiling over 100 of the best songs from 2013, the staff at Rager Onions put their super-powers (our brains) together and narrowed it down to ten. Ten s0ngs that not only caught our ears, but blew our minds.

Without further adieu, the Top 10 EDM Songs of 2013.

10. Protohype chilled out a little with this track, and the result was a masterpiece. With one of the most motivational songs of 2013, “Fly” is a tasty dubstep anthem for any music palette. Seriously, even your grandma might like it.

9. The dark horse, Andy Duguid, takes trance to a whole new level with “7Even”. Like all great songs, this one gets better with every listen. One might even call it ‘orgasmic’.

8. The French sensation has done it again. Madeon may not be old enough to drink alcohol in the U.S. yet, but he did produce one of the top-10 EDM songs of 2013. Kids these days.

7. Disclosure and Flume in the same sentence? You know it’s going to be nothing but gold.

6. Coming from one of this years top LP’s, Sub Focus also found his way onto the top-10 with this up-beat, D&B melody. Whether you’re having problems at work, problems with a girl, or problems doing laundry on a consistent basis – this song will surely put you on the right path.

5. Dillon Francis did a lot in 2013. But nothing was more impressive than his first love song, “Without You”. According to Dillon’s Soundcloud, “This song is very meaningful to me because as TEED and I were working on the song I was having relationship problems of my own. He ended up writing the song about the whole situation i was going through..”

4. Just nasty. Trap isn’t dead yet, you guys. You heard it hear first: What So Not is the future of trap.

3. Audien exploded in 2013, and we’ll expect nothing less in 2014.

2. Our #1 EP of 2013 belonged to KOAN Sound & Asa’s Sanctuary. “Starlite” took the EDM world by storm, and for good reason.

1. The song that was at the top halfway through the year, stays at the top. Funky, passionate, and perfect for love making – this collaboration from two of EDM’s brightest minds will go down in the record books. Because “Easy” was the best EDM song of 2013.

Honorable Mentions:

The best remix of 2013 belongs to Kat Krazy.

We just can’t say enough about Sound Remedy. So we won’t.

This song got bumped from the top-10, but The M Machine deserves a lot of love for this “Tiny Anthem”.

You’re going to hear this song on the radio a lot over the next few months, but make no mistake about it – it was one of the best EDM songs produced this past year.

We’re all hippies at heart.
