AWE – Crystals [TBA]

Zachary Urman (aka AWE) has left us feeling exactly as his moniker reads when listening to his latest release titled “Crystals.” After a little bit of sleuthing we have discovered that Mr. Urman used to produce music under the alias Zaku Chan, but has recently made the switch onto his new project, AWE. Now working rather independently, but under the watchful eye of season veteran Plastician, Zach finds himself releasing new tracks under Terrorhythm Recordings.

“Crystals” is an EDM production unlike anything we have heard. To even classify it within a particular genre would be doing this monster of a jam a great disservice. Others are comparing it to Rustie, but we disagree. We don’t even want to make an attempt at it. All we know is that AWE’s sounds are incredibly vivid, his chord progression is on par with the most talented of EDM producers and this may just be one of the most innovative and unique songs of 2014 thus far.

You just need to hear it for yourself, really.

And please, please, whatever you do, wait for that second drop. SO SICK.

Plan B | Love Goes Down (Doctor P Remix)

As I was scrolling through my SoundCloud feed in the wee hours of the fading morning, I could not help but smile like a jackass when I saw that this next throwback was uploaded by the king of dubstep himself, Doctor P. There is a reason why Flux Pavilion and this next producer are the co-founders of Circus Records. Certified OGs.

And it is absolutely massive tracks like this next one that serve as the evidence for why artists like Doctor P are where they are today. It takes hard work, talent, and a pinch of luck. Fortunately for Shaun Brockhurst, the competition never stood a chance against the dirty, grimy, all around filthy dubstep insanity he precipitates on each and every production.

Doctor P’s remix of “Love Goes Down” is one of his best in our opinion. Thank the man for throwing this up.

Adventure Club | Wonder ft. The Kite String Tangle (T-Mass Remix)

Thomas Allen of T-Mass has been producing his own original blend of lush, highly melodic dubstep music for a little over two years now. What first caught our attention when listening to this next artist was his ability to develop and grow his sound over the extent of a single production. T-Mass’ tracks always possess a certain singular movement that evokes feeling and can almost even tell a story. The songs rise, climax, fall and decay just like any great piece of literature would.

Thomas’ most recent release on SoundCloud, a remix to “Wonder” featuring The Kite String Tangle on vocals, was submitted as part of a contest taking place by Adventure Club, who originally produced the song. Mr. Allen actually cites AC as being one of his biggest influences, so we imagine he’d be pretty jacked if he manages to win this thing.

Like any of the other great songs by T-Mass, his remix to Adventure Club incorporates a simple, yet beautiful chord progression, beginning with a piano melody, resonating, chopped vocals and a unique, almost progressive house type build. Don’t let it fool you however, because after the drop, it’s only more of what we’ve seen from this Bay Area beast.
