SAMF 2013The line-up for this year’s Spring Awakening Music Festival is absolutely HUGE.

Amongst the prodigious and the popular artists in the mix for SAMF, Figure is simply hiding behind their gigantic shadows, waiting for his chance to strike. Even I will admit it, he is definitely NOT for everyone. If you like drumstep and bass music however, you will love Figure.

Yeah, I get it, “bass music.”

Such a generic labeling. But honestly, that is the only thing you can call it. Josh has found a way to turn all styles of music into fast paced, face melting, bass-modulating insanity. A few listens to a selection of his remixes will be a testament to this man’s knowledge of musical theory and composition. I said it before and I will say it again, Josh Gard knows good music, and he knows how to manipulate other’s music to his own styling.

As I stated previously, classifying this producer is a bit tricky. But, I suppose he would fall into the same category as artists like Excision, Datsik, Flux Pavilion, and Borgore. However, lumping Figure into a group is doing a disservice to the kind of music he produces. The best way to understand what I am talking about is to simply click on a few of the tracks I have included below. His unique sound has earned him the loyalty of a massive, cult following of fans. On Josh’s Facebook, he describes his sound as “twists and turns through an intergalactic electro war armed with robots and missile drop laser synths.”

Works for me.

If you are looking for a catharsis this summer in the Chi, look no further. Josh Gard’s will bring intensity and earth shattering bass in excess. We just hope you can handle it. Oh and don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for me at his show, I’ll be the guy losing my mind…in a good way.
