In the eighth episode of SMIRNOFF’s Master of the Mix last night, the DJs faced their toughest competition yet: Bend the Ten.
The contestants were given the same list of 10 completely random songs, which ranged in BPM and in genre. Aside from keeping a consistent flow and hitting smooth transitions, the DJs that shined were the ones who implemented their own style into this rigorous set. Because when you’re mixing songs you’d never imagine pairing together, the task at hand is anything but simple. The DJ’s had to go outside their comfort zone, all while pumping up the crowd and more importantly: pleasing the judges.
Loczi, the show’s most EDM-eccentric DJ, absolutely tore it up. Winning the competition overall, DJ Loczi schooled the other contestants by majestically blending each track with his original style. Utilizing his own cuts and loops, DJ Loczi put on an electrifying three-minute mix that left the judges stunned – and the crowd wanting more. At the end of the day, DJ Dynamix couldn’t make the cut, and his record was scratched.
And then there were four.
